Quantum Mechanics of a Black Hole
نویسنده
چکیده
Beginning with Bekenstein, many authors have considered a uniformly spaced discrete quantum spectrum for black hole horizon area. It is also believed that the huge degeneracy of these area levels corresponds to the notion of black hole entropy. Starting from these two assumptions we here infer the algebra of a Schwarzschild black hole’s observables. This algebra then serves as motivation for introducing in the system’s Hamiltonian an interaction term. The interaction contains the horizon area operator, which is a number operator, and its canonical conjugate, the phase operator. The Hawking radiation from a Schwarzschild black hole is seen to be a consequence of an area–phase interaction. Using this interaction we have reproduced the semi–classical result for the Hawking radiation power. Furthermore, we show that the initial state of the black hole determines the nature of its development. Thus, a state which is an area eigenstate describes a static eternal black hole, but a coherent state describes a radiating black hole. Hence, it is the observer’s initial knowledge or uncertainty about the horizon area which determines the evolution. Typeset using REVTEX ∗E-mail: [email protected]

Unitarity of black hole evaporation in final-state projection models
Almheiri et al. have emphasized that otherwise reasonable beliefs about black hole evaporation are incompatible with the monogamy of quantum entanglement, a general property of quantum mechanics. We investigate the final-state projection model of black hole evaporation proposed by Horowitz and Maldacena, pointing out that this model admits cloning of quantum states and polygamous entanglement, ...
متن کاملHolographic Quantum Statistics from Dual Thermodynamics
We propose dual thermodynamics corresponding to black hole mechanics with the identifications E → A/4, S → M , and T ′ → T−1 in Planck units. Here A, M and T are the horizon area, mass and Hawking temperature of a black hole and E, S and T ′ are the energy, entropy and temperature of a corresponding dual quantum system. We show that, for a Schwarzschild black hole, the dual variables formally s...
متن کاملThe Information Problem in Black Hole Evaporation: Old and Recent Results
The formation and evaporation of a black hole can be viewed as a scattering process in Quantum Gravity. Semiclassical arguments indicate that the process should be nonunitary, and that all the information of the original quantum state forming the black hole should be lost after the black hole has completely evaporated, except for its mass, charge and angular momentum. This would imply a violati...
متن کاملToward the New Gravitational Noncommutative Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics of Quantum Black Holes
This is a short account of our work on the statistical mechanics of ‘cold’ quantum black holes in the constituent model of a black hole 3 4 . A quantum Schwarzschild black hole consists of gravitational atoms of Planckian mass scale 3 4 . The gapless bosonic collective excitations of a bound state of N gravitational atoms dominate the thermodynamics of a cold quantum black hole. It turns out th...

One of the most crucial problems in geo-engineering is the instability of unsaturated slopes, causing severe loss of life and property worldwide. In this study, five novel meta-heuristic methods are employed to optimize locating the Critical Failure Surface (CFS) and corresponding Factor of Safety (FOS). A Finite Element Method (FEM) code is incorporated to convert the strong form of the Richar...
